Why should I become an Airmedic member when the government already offers hospital plane service?

The Quebec government's hospital plane service is an important component of the province's healthcare system, but hospital planes do not carry out individual emergency medical rescue operations. Hospital planes are designed to transport several patients at a time. They operate as a shuttle service throughout Quebec, which can mean substantial wait-times before patients arrive at the hospital.

Are Airmedic services covered by RAMQ or SAAQ?

No. Contrary to popular belief, Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) and Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) do not cover any helicopter or airplane medical rescue service.

Can I call Airmedic from anywhere, at any time of day or night?

Airmedic's emergency services are  reserved for its members. Our emergency phone line is open 24/7, 365 days a year.

How can I contact Airmedic from outside a cell phone service area?

Various satellite communication devices are available on the market, but the most expensive are not necessarily the best suited to your needs. Several companies specialize in the sale of this type of device.

How can I alert  Airmedic's emergency services with a SPOT device?

We have developed a simple procedure with SPOT for directly connecting the SOS button on the device to our emergency call centre. This service is strictly reserved for our members. If you already have a SPOT device, click here for instructions. 

I am an Airmedic member and I'm going on an expedition soon with a friend who isn't a member. Can friends use my coverage if they need emergency medical attention?

Your Airmedic coverage is nontransferable and nonrefundable. If your friend does'nt need an annual coverage, a 7-day or 14-day temporary coverage would then be appropriate.

My spouse and I have a cottage in a remote area, next to a lake, but neither of us is into extreme sports or other high-risk activities. Is Airmedic coverage right for us?

Many people are under the false impression that Airmedic is only for people who like living on the edge. Not true: Airmedic is a fast and effective emergency medical service for anyone staying or residing in Quebec. Think about it: What would happen if you had a heart attack? How long would it take to get the specialized emergency medical attention you need? Answering this question should give you all the reason you need to sign up right away.

In case of emergency, who should I call first: Airmedic or 911?

If you have an Airmedic coverage,  we recommend you to call us immediately at 1 877 999-3322. If you do not have an Airmedic coverage, you should then call 9-1-1.

Can I accompany the person rescued by Airmedic?

Unfortunately, space on board is severely limited. To ensure optimal conditions for emergency care during transport, and in the interest of the person receiving care, patients may be accompanied only under exceptional circumstances.

Can foreign tourists get Airmedic coverage?

Yes. Various Airmedic coverage options are available to anyone visiting or residing in the province of Quebec. We offer 7- and 14-day coverage packages designed specifically for travellers. Note however that temporary coverage is only valid south of the 51st parallel and that annual membership is the only option that guarantees you emergency services anywhere in the province .

My dog always comes with me on hunting and fishing trips. If I have to be transported by helicopter, can it accompany me?

Airmedic will take the necessary steps to make sure your dog is safe. However, for obvious health and safety reasons, animals are not allowed on board. 

Can Airmedic provide rescue service in the middle of the night?
Since March 2016, Airmedic is able to fly at night thanks to the accreditation it has received from Transport Canada following the purchase of a specialized equipment, ANVIS 9 night vision googles.  This will allow us to preserve and save more lives since air medical operations will occur at night.  Prior to this, Airmedics pilots could only fly trom an illuminated place to another illuminated place. The night vision googles don't have any restrictions and allow us to safely land anywhere at anytime when the climate conditions are acceptable.

Do I need to have my membership card on me at the time of rescue?

You don't need to have your card with you to be rescued by Airmedic. We do, however, recommend keeping your card in a safe place so you can quickly find the emergency phone number should you need it.

Do AIRMEDIC offers transportation service for people waiting for organ transplants?

AIRMEDIC achieved in the past few missions of this service to members, certainly, given the costs involved to assume the transportation combined with some use of the service abuse, we decided since June 20, 2016 to continue to provide service to members in good standing but with a new fee (surcharge) which strictly covers our costs of operations depending on the distance.
