Do you have your Airmedic protection?
Fishermen and fisherwomen, the coming weeks will see the gradual opening of the fishing season by designated fishing zones. Many are eagerly awaiting this moment. As you take your fishing rod and gear out of the closet and renew your Airmedic coverage, Airmedic reminds you of the regulations imposed on anglers in Quebec and shares some safety tips to help you enjoy this beautiful season until it closes.
Here is a safety reminder, along with the seasons, limits, and exceptions:
-
Hold your valid Airmedic coverage
Few people know this, but Airmedic offers a seasonal coverage plan lasting three consecutive months. You can choose the start date and benefit from coverage anywhere in Quebec in case of an accident requiring medical transport. Also, if you already have annual coverage, make sure it has been renewed. To check if your coverage is still active, contact our customer service.
-
Have a fishing permit.
You can obtain or renew your permit online by accessing your account, at ZEC entrances, and at numerous large retail stores serving as sales points. The price of the permit varies by category but averages around $25 for Quebec residents.
-
Know your fishing zone
There are 29 fishing zones in the province. Fishing periods, quotas per body of water, the number of lines accepted and the minimum length of fish vary from zone to zone. That’s why it’s essential to be familiar with the rules applicable to your area before starting the season. Check your zone here.

-
Wear your flotation jacket at all times on the water
No one is safe from falling out of their boat. Wearing your PFD can save your life. Fortunately, there are now a multitude of non-bulky vests that allow you to move freely, without even feeling it!
-
Make sure you have an effective means of communication
Garmin, Spot, Bivy, Iridium, there are many satellite phones available on the market. You can buy or rent one at an affordable price for the duration of your stay.
If you’re staying with an outfitter, ask if they have a satellite phone or Wi-Fi network so you can contact Airmedic in an emergency.
For more information on satellite telephony, contact SKNA Solutions Télécom.
