The FCMQ and Airmedic are proud to promote this sport while encouraging safe behaviors. Indeed, over the past 21 years, 549 snowmobilers have died while enjoying their favorite hobby. That said, collectively, these tragedies have affected thousands of families and friends. For this reason, always stay alert and go well-prepared!
Do not hesitate to consult the new snowmobiler’s guide before every outing.
What to bring?
Accidents can happen quickly in Quebec when snowmobiling. In case of an incident, rescue teams may have difficulty accessing the trails or locating and reaching you. Since only 25% of Quebec is covered by the 9-1-1 service, prepare for any eventuality when venturing away from major centers. For this reason, we recommend always carrying a first aid kit, a satellite phone, and an emergency transport service.
Airmedic is the only private company in Quebec offering day-and-night helicopter transport. In case of an emergency, our members can receive immediate assistance. Medical professionals intervene quickly and ensure transport to the appropriate hospital. Thus, this emergency transport service allows for effective care and limits medical complications.
Essential equipment not to forget:
- Snowmobile helmet
- Water and snacks
- Hand/foot warmers
- First aid kit
- Cell phone and/or satellite phone
- Emergency protection (e.g., Airmedic membership card)
- Spare drive belt
- Spare mittens and/or gloves
- Interactive trail maps (https://fcmq.fcmqapi.ca/carte-motoneige/index.html#map)

Tools for your snowmobiling season

Even experienced snowmobilers consult it before hitting the trails. In addition to discussing types of models, features, and accessories, the guide emphasizes laws, community, and snowmobile safety. Indeed, the behaviors to adopt on the trails are essential to ensure everyone’s safety.
Federated trails are well maintained, but they may close temporarily. We recommend using the interactive trail map, which allows you to stay updated on closures and accidents, and even create personalized routes. Everything is also available on your cell phone!
