Ahhhh winter, a love affair with Quebecers. Yes, winter allows us to practice our favorite sports, go on expeditions or enjoy a stay at an outfitter or in a ZEC. But it’s also synonymous with much shorter days! By late afternoon, the sun is setting. Night vision goggles become an essential tool for our teams. Without them, most of our missions would be impossible. Have you ever thought about this scenario? What if there was an accident at 3 p.m.?
Without specialized goggles, we’d have to wait until the next day to receive help. Indeed, winter severely limits our window of opportunity to intervene without this equipment.
Why are night vision goggles essential for Airmedic services?
Providing 24/7 service is fundamental to Airmedic. Night vision goggles play an essential role in Airmedic’s helicopter missions at night. Airmedic understands that in the event of an incident, you don’t want to wait for hours or even overnight. To operate this military equipment, Airmedic holds a special authorization issued by Transport Canada. Since 2016, Airmedic has been the only company in Quebec to hold this qualification. As a result, our mission to provide fast service relies on sophisticated tools like these.

Did you know that this type of eyewear is normally reserved for the police and military? However, Airmedic has been using them as standard equipment since 2016.
The technology behind
ANVIS 9 goggles are made in the USA. This defense equipment is on the ITAR list. In Canada, they are controlled by Public Services and Supply Canada. This is done under the management of the Controlled Goods Program, in accordance with the Defence Production Act.
Our pilots receive specific training in their use. They are also certified. These goggles amplify light up to 10,000 times. So, even in the dark of night, you can see by the light of the stars, the moon or a nearby city.

When you need it most, Airmedic is there. Whether it’s a snowmobile accident, heart condition or work-related incident, our pilots are ready to take off day or night. Thanks to night vision goggles, Airmedic can intervene safely even in the darkest nights.
