Looking for new activities this fall? Why not visit a ZEC in Quebec? Indeed, all year round, Quebec’s 63 ZECs offer stunning landscapes and a wide range of activities: hunting, fishing, ATV riding, hiking, camping, and more. Some ZECs even offer Airmedic protection for their visitors. This makes visiting a ZEC even safer, even in the heart of the Monts-Valin.
Marie-Andrée Poulin, Communications, Public Relations, Partnerships, and Development Advisor at Réseau ZEC, and Marie-Josée Savard, Director of ZEC Martin-Valin, highlight the many benefits you gain when you choose to visit a ZEC.
What is a ZEC?
A ZEC is a controlled harvesting zone managed by a non-profit organization. These natural territories offer a wide variety of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and hiking. They feature lakes, mountains, forests, and various accommodations for a complete nature stay.
The ZEC Quebec Federation supports ZEC activities and helps promote them.
Why visit a ZEC in summer or winter?
ZECs can be found all over Quebec. These territories provide diverse landscapes and a variety of activities. We want to highlight the options available in these natural areas. You can even bring your pets along.
Activities offered in ZECs:
- Hunting and fishing
- Snowmobiling
- Hiking
- Canoeing
- Backcountry camping
- Paddleboarding
- Snowshoeing
- ATV riding
- Kayaking
- Accommodations: yurt, chalet, PODS, etc.
Some sites also offer equipment rental.
Depending on the ZEC, activities and accommodations vary. You will find many “ready-to-camp” options such as yurts, PODS, and chalets. Additionally, many territories allow backcountry camping. These areas provide everything needed for an unforgettable ZEC adventure.
Airmedic protection during your visit

“ZECs are often located in remote areas, far from major centers and hospitals. It’s perfect for recharging. However, when it comes to safety, it’s essential to have protection that ensures our visitors’ security. I’m really happy to see that over 20 ZECs have decided to adopt Airmedic protection.
In case of emergency, this protection allows us to ensure everyone’s safety. Indeed, thanks to helicopters ready to take off and medical personnel, in case of an accident or illness, we know that our members will be in good hands quickly. This 24/7 service available in member ZECs is accessible to all who discover these sites. It’s an extra layer of safety for users. They can enjoy their activities knowing that if an accident occurs, they are protected and quickly transported to the hospital. Check which ZECs offer Airmedic protection.”

Zec Martin-Valin

“ZEC Martin-Valin is one of the largest ZECs in Quebec. It’s one of the most popular destinations due to its vast territory and geographical location. The ZEC is located in the Monts-Valin, making it an ideal area to explore in both summer and winter. It’s known for snow sports and snowmobiling.
For several years now, we have benefited from Airmedic protection. In remote areas, whether in summer or winter, during recreational activities or in case of illness, there are risks. That’s why it’s essential for us to ensure the safety of our visitors. As a ZEC, it is our duty to provide effective and rapid transport in an emergency, and Airmedic allows us to offer this service.
Of course, our site is safe and we conduct prevention measures. However, when an unpredictable event occurs, Airmedic is there to intervene.
We have used Airmedic services several times. It is always a relief to know that the person is taken care of by a professional medical team. We are very happy to have access to this protection in these critical moments.”
