Airmedic joins Humanis to offer the Air Medical Transport training program
SAGUENAY, February 1, 2021 – Airmedic and Cégep de Chicoutimi are proud to combine their strengths to offer the Air Medical Transport training at the Humanis Continuing Education Centre.
This new agreement states that instructors from both organizations will share teaching responsibilities. Indeed, experienced personnel will provide theoretical and practical training. Airmedic will also provide access to aircraft and specialized equipment. Thus, the training will meet industry standards and ensure care quality in close collaboration with the training centre.
A program supported by experts
Cégep de Chicoutimi also has strong expertise in health, with seven programs in the field. This makes it a major player in training professionals within Quebec’s college network.
“We are pleased to partner with Airmedic, Quebec’s leader in interfacility air medical transport. Its expertise, combined with our instructors’ experience and our online training background, ensures a winning formula.” – Ms. Manon Chapdelaine, Director of the Humanis Continuing Education Centre, Cégep de Chicoutimi
“Having an air medical transport training program available within an educational institution is another step toward professionalizing our service. This project supports our objective of strengthening regulation of air medical services in Quebec. Indeed, we hope helicopter medical transport will be fully integrated into the public health system. I am excited about our collaboration with Cégep de Chicoutimi, in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, where everything began for Airmedic.” – Sophie Larochelle, Chief Executive Officer of Airmedic.
A complete training adapted to real conditions
The Centre québécois de formation aéronautique (CQFA), also a project partner, will lead the wilderness survival courses. It has mastered this expertise for decades. “Students must complete a 60-hour wilderness survival course, just like our national school pilots. We will take them into the forest, and they must learn to survive winter conditions. In this way, they will be ready to face extreme situations that may occur during air transport,” explains CQFA Director Steeve Noreau.
The Air Medical Transport program lasts 145 hours. Fifty hours will be provided by Airmedic and focus on the air medical component. The training runs from February 2 to June 13 and will train ten selected healthcare professionals working as nurses, paramedics, and respiratory therapists.
