Airmedic helicopter medical coverage: main partner of First Nations Expedition for the second year in a row
PESSAMIT, QC, January 25, 2024 2024 /CNW/ – Following the overwhelming success of the first edition of First Nations Expedition, 60 Indigenous and non-Indigenous snowmobilers are once again taking to the trails. This year’s event is held under the theme of reconciliation. For a second consecutive year, the expedition benefits from helicopter medical coverage provided by Airmedic, which serves as the main partner and ensures the safety of all participants.
“Airmedic is committed to reconciliation and upholds four key values: brotherhood, respect, solidarity, and courage. These same values will guide the 60 snowmobilers as they push their limits in harsh winter conditions,” said Sophie Larochelle, Chief Executive Officer of Airmedic. “Since 65% of our operations in Québec involve First Nations members, this expedition is close to our hearts. It reflects our reconciliation efforts and aligns deeply with our core values,” she added.
A Helicopter Evacuation Team Ready to Intervene Anytime
From January 27 to February 10, 2024, the 60 participants will travel 3,250 kilometers, visiting 14 towns and communities. In parallel, a helicopter configured exclusively for medical transport will remain on standby, ready to intervene at any time. On board, a flight nurse and a flight paramedic will accompany the group to ensure rapid air medical evacuation, day or night. Therefore, this aerial medical support provides reassurance to participants and their families through prompt emergency response.
“Having Airmedic by our side to provide helicopter medical coverage is extremely important. Their understanding of the social, cultural, and historical realities of First Nations ensures that care is delivered safely, respectfully, and equitably,” said Christian Flamand, organizer and founder of the event. “Their presence brings a sense of comfort and security to everyone involved,” he added.
Airmedic will strategically position its helicopter in Pessamit, Mashteuiatsh, Rouyn-Noranda, Maniwaki, La Tuque, and Wendake to ensure optimal deployment times and effective aerial medical support throughout the route. For a second year, Airmedic also benefits from the support of Avjet Holding Inc., a company specializing in aviation fuel distribution. Avjet will provide essential fuel deliveries and access to its aviation infrastructure to sustain operations during the expedition.
“Avjet Holding is proud to partner with Airmedic for the second edition of First Nations Expedition. We are providing facilities and operational support for their medical coverage of the 60 participants. We are honored to contribute to this event, which embodies a message of hope, love, and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities,” said Sylvain Touchette, Vice President, Sales and Development, Avjet Holding Inc.
