A new hangar specializing in air medical transport for Airmedic in Quebec City
Québec, November 22, 2022 – Airmedic is announcing the construction of a new hangar dedicated to air medical transport at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB). This project aligns with the company’s development plan. It will expand its operational capacity and strengthen its air and helicopter medical transport services.

A Direct Response to Evolving Regional Needs
The construction of this specialized air medical hangar addresses the growing demand for helicopter and airplane medical evacuations. Offices and a fire-station-style operational area will be integrated into the new building. As a result, these facilities will improve crew response times. This allows Airmedic to intervene more quickly, which is essential in critical situations.
The building will also accommodate a larger number of aircraft. This air medical infrastructure is a valuable asset that supports the company’s long-term growth.
“The Premier’s recent announcement of a helicopter medical transport program and the growing need to support remote communities create an urgent need for action. Airmedic wants its new air medical facilities to respond effectively to regional needs. We also aim to collaborate with the public sector to strengthen service delivery,” said Sophie Larochelle, Chief Executive Officer of Airmedic.
A Strategic Location in the Capitale-Nationale
Some regions of Québec have been identified as priorities by Premier Legault. Therefore, this new air medical base in Québec City will allow for more efficient deployment of available resources. Located at the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport, these resources will be able to serve surrounding areas of the Capitale-Nationale more rapidly.
“Private-sector expertise plays a key role in implementing this program,” added Ms. Larochelle.
“We are proud that Airmedic has chosen Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport to build this medical operations center. This initiative fits perfectly with our strategic plan. It helps diversify our activities and strengthens our role as a regional economic driver,” said Stéphane Poirier, President and CEO of YQB.
Airmedic currently operates six PC-12 aircraft, one PC-24 jet, and six helicopters dedicated to medical transport. In the short term, the company aims to become a rapid-response force and be ready to serve all regions of Québec.
