LONGUEUIL, QC, June 17, 2019 – Airmedic, a leader in air medical transport, continues its growth with the acquisition of three new Airbus EC145e helicopters ® equipped with cutting-edge technology. The company relies on the expertise of global giant Airbus and the know-how of Metro Aviation, a partner specializing in interior aircraft configuration for emergency medical services. Thus, each aircraft will meet real operational needs. Moreover, the nearly $30 million investment will allow Airmedic to deploy some of the most advanced helicopters in the world. An optimized fleet for broader coverage
“We have always aimed to set industry standards, build a culture of excellence, and invest in the most advanced equipment and technologies. Today, we strengthen an already high-performance fleet. Indeed, we enhance it with the best available. Thus, we will offer broader territory coverage. We will also ensure more strategic aircraft placement. Finally, this upgrade enables us to improve service quality for our clients, ” said Sophie Larochelle, Airmedic Executive Vice President.
“With the delivery of the Airbus EC145e helicopters, Airmedic will gain crucial additional support. This will allow its highly qualified team to provide safe, fast, and extremely specialized emergency medical transport for critically ill and injured individuals. We look forward to supporting Airmedic’s mission, which helps Quebec patients by offering vital services,” said Romain Trapp, President, Airbus Helicopters Canada.
Before the aircraft were delivered, Metro Aviation trained Airmedic’s pilots and instructors using its one-of-a-kind flight simulator.
Airbus EC145e helicopters adapted to Quebec
Airmedic carefully selected the Airbus EC145e helicopters ®, which bring its total number of emergency-dedicated aircraft to nine. Suited to Quebec’s realities, these helicopters stand out for their long range, allowing greater distance without refueling and reducing response times. They are also known for their safety and spacious cabin, which can transport two patients simultaneously and accommodate up to four passengers, allowing medical staff to provide high-quality care.
The aircraft will be used for both prehospital and interfacility transport. They will enter service in the coming weeks. This major investment adds to the $55 million already invested since 2012 in equipment and infrastructure.
“We are pleased to help finance our clients’ projects during critical stages of their development. Airmedic continues its impressive growth and invests to further professionalize its practice, increase its efficiency and deployment, and enhance services for its clientele of individuals, corporate clients, and healthcare institutions, ” said Hugo Bisaillon, Assistant Vice President, Business Development, Business Development Bank of Canada.
