MONTREAL, June 17, 2026 – Airmedic, a leader in specialized air medical transport, today unveiled a new medical cabin. It is custom-designed for its Bombardier Learjet 45XR aircraft. Already in service aboard a first aircraft, this permanent clinical environment supports patient transport. Furthermore, it sets a new benchmark for critical care in flight.
This medical cabin is the result of hands-on experience gained during missions. As a result, its permanent configuration improves clinical access and optimizes the work of medical teams. It also guarantees the immediate availability of essential equipment. Thanks to these improvements, crews manage complex transports with greater precision, efficiency and comfort.

Airmedic has therefore invested in a fully redesigned permanent medical interior. This ultra-modern medical cabin was developed in close collaboration with the engineering teams at Fargo Jet Center. It is certified by both the FAA and Transport Canada through a Supplemental Type Certificate. In addition, its design is based on direct feedback from the crews, clients and patients it serves.
Key Innovative Features for Critical Care Transport
The upgraded cabin features an advanced LifePort stretcher system. It also includes a stainless steel-clad composite sidewall to ensure hygiene and durability. In addition, a custom medical cabinet keeps essential equipment protected and immediately accessible at all times. Specialized rails also allow medical equipment to be secured above the care area. These include the monitor-defibrillator, transport ventilator and intravenous therapy units. As a result, critical equipment remains within easy reach, close to the patient.
Moreover, a widened loading clearance makes patient handling easier. This includes bariatric cases and incubator transports. Medical-grade surfaces also allow effective decontamination between missions. Finally, a custom privacy curtain preserves patient dignity throughout the flight.
The medical cabin also relies on a new satellite communication (SATCOM) and Skytrac ISAT-200A flight-tracking system. Thanks to this technology, crews can consult physicians hands-free, without interrupting patient care.
Together, these improvements create a structured clinical workspace. This space supports decisive intervention during critical care transports. At the same time, it enhances overall patient comfort, dignity and safety.
Investing in the Advancement of International Patient Repatriation
The Learjet 45XR conversion is the first step in a broader fleet modernization strategy. In fact, a second aircraft will soon receive an identical permanent medical configuration. The investment in both cabins will therefore reach approximately two million Canadian dollars. These conversions are part of Airmedic’s overall 18-million-Canadian-dollar investment in its Bombardier Learjet 45XR fleet, supporting the continued expansion of its international medical repatriation program.
