Increase in Airmedic’s Helicopter Fleet
Saint-Hubert, November 4, 2022 – Airmedic is announcing the addition of new helicopters to its fleet, which is expanding from two to six aircraft. This announcement was made at the Snowmobile and Quad Show. The company has acquired four BK117 helicopters. As a result, Airmedic is reaffirming its commitment to expanding its reach across Québec.
A Strategic Acquisition to Improve Emergency Response
The new aircraft come from STARS, Airmedic’s equivalent in Western Canada. These helicopters are designed exclusively for medical transport. Because of this addition, Airmedic is better equipped to meet the growing demand for emergency care.
According to Jean-Patrick Laflamme, Communications Manager at Airmedic: “The acquisition of these aircraft will help optimize the use of our existing infrastructure for prehospital and interfacility transport. Private-sector expertise plays a key role in the success of this program.”
High-Performance Aircraft to Serve All Regions
BK117 helicopters are twin-engine aircraft. Therefore, they can land on all types of helipads, including in urban environments. In addition, their ability to fly under instrument flight rules (IFR) allows safe operations in challenging weather conditions. Finally, the use of night vision goggles ensures 24/7 medical coverage.
These new aircraft complement the current fleet, which includes six PC-12s and one PC-24 jet. Thus, the company is becoming an even faster and more effective rapid-response force.
An Essential Service for Remote Regions
For more than ten years, Airmedic has been a leading provider of air and helicopter medical transport in Québec. The company relies on dedicated teams, strong infrastructure, and specialized aircraft. Thanks to this constant availability, Airmedic improves response times. It also helps prevent service gaps in health facilities during interfacility transfers.
