Airmedic at the Canadian Grand Prix: A Helicopter Medical Transport Service
SAINT-HUBERT, QC, June 16, 2022 —
From June 17 to 19, Montreal will finally vibrate with the Canadian Grand Prix. To ensure the safety of drivers and spectators, Formula 1 renews its trust in Airmedic, the official event partner, and the trauma team of the Montreal Sacré-Coeur Hospital. Therefore, they will provide fast and specialized helicopter medical transport. Thus, this initiative strengthens the event’s overall safety. Airmedic at the Canadian Grand Prix reflects a concrete commitment to participant health and safety.
“It is a very professional organization that prioritizes safety on the track and in the stands. For this reason, we are proud to contribute through our emergency care expertise and air medical transport,” says Sophie Larochelle, Airmedic Chief Executive Officer.
Large-Scale Medical Coordination for the Canadian Grand Prix
The Grand Prix emergency plan relies on a well-structured logistic system. Indeed, close collaboration between all partners supports emergency management. Thanks to the combined experience of Airmedic and the Sacré-Cœur Hospital, an emergency protocol enables quick and effective interventions.
On the hospital side, this marks the trauma team’s 37th participation in the Grand Prix. During the three competition days, 50 physicians, 23 respiratory therapists, 10 nurses, and one medical technologist will be mobilized. Therefore, they will respond on the track, in the pit area, at the track hospital, or aboard rapid-response vehicles.
In a severe emergency, Airmedic’s medical helicopter ensures evacuation to the Montreal Sacré-Cœur Hospital in only seven minutes. This reactivity is indeed crucial for preserving the lives of critically injured drivers. Moreover, this mobilization demonstrates the reliability of helicopter medical transport. It is an essential component of emergency care systems. Airmedic at the Canadian Grand Prix showcases proven expertise in rapid response and air medical coverage.
” For more than 30 years, we have protected the health of the drivers. This medical team is a reference. All eyes turn to us in case of an accident, ” says Dr. Ronald Denis, Medical Director of the Trauma Program.
